Beaches
We used to say that Florianópolis had 42 beaches. A new test ordered by the IPUF (Florianópolis Urban Planning Institute), discovered something new about the beaches of Florianopolis that no one ever realized.
To everybody’s surprise, over 100 beaches were found.
The 100 beaches are recognized by the local population, and in some cases, they have more than one name.
According to the location, the North, East, South, South Bay, North Bay, Continent, Islands, neighbors and lakes.
Among all these beauties, one of them is special to us, because it offers us the oportunity of living in a more natural setting: Campeche Beach.
The name “Campeche” is derived from a vegetable of the leaf family used for painting, which was abundant on the island. So, the version used by some people is that Campeche comes from french (Cham et pech – fishing field), is a total mistake, because the use of the term comes before the pointed fact.
The beach became famous when, from 1923 and on, it started being used as a land field for Saint Exupery’s (the famous writer of The Little Prince)international flights.
Being 3.800m long, 5 meters minimum width and 150 maximum of white sands, it’s traditionally used for fishing activities. But it’natural beauty is becoming every day more recognized by tourists.
Along the beach, which is today an important touristic center, a traditional comunnity grows, with folklore, habits and traditions. Campeche has a good structure of hotels, restaurantes and services.
