Mestre Duca's Institute Ceramics social-cultural Project

2 hands modeling ceramic Aiming the new times and the need of participate actively of the Campeche's community, Vila Tamarindo inn and Mestre Duca's Institute / Canemba House have firmed a partnership to promote ceramics workshops for kids and teens on Campeche Beach, in Florianópolis. It's about a social and incentive project to those who desire to begin on ceramics art carreer, which was so important on Santa Catarina's Island on the past.

5 ceramic dolls This project has began on Canemba House Atelier, the headquarter from Mestre Duca's Cultural Institute, on April 4th, 2008, and counts with the participation of young people from the community and all surroundings. Teacher Rita Guedes is commited to the art from people like Mrs. Etelvina, 80 years old, many of them dedicated to hand-made work, so she can keep on passing all her knowledge away to new pupils.

Ceramic Jar Ceramic is one of the oldest arts, and its beggining matches with fire discover, being present on the development of several civilization.

This kind of work involves the four essential elements from nature: earth, water, fire and air. The power of dominating the clay frees the tensions, fatigue, depression and also allows the development of concentration, creativity and autonomy, promoting a positive feeling for life.

Objective

3 ceramic dolls Ceramics workshop has as main objective to start students on this millenarian art, developing on clay's handling the techniques, making possible the domain on turning pieces on the pottery's wheel, with the construction of knowledge, and development of habilities and creativity.

To Paolo Mascheretti, Vila Tamarindo Eco Lodge Inn's manager, this social commitment of the inn with Campeche's community is an unique opportunity to keep a tradition alive and at the same time create on students the sense of responsability and development of a talent that can be used on the future.

Pottery tradition represents a Açorian inheritance. Teaching and keeping alive this fire is a way to strengthen and keep the cultural tradition, allowing teenager to better know their region's history, providing also the integration of kids to the society.

This social project is the only place in Santa Catarina's Island to offer, free, these knowledges to kids and teens.
