THE INN
Opened in September 1999, the Pousada Vila Tamarindo Eco Lodge Praia do Campeche in Florianópolis is based on the concept of sustainability, for the development of its activities, the full satisfaction of its guests and respect for the environment in which it is located. inserted.
Within this concept, Pousada Vila Tamarindo Eco Lodge offers the charm and comfort of a beach house. Spacious and airy, simple and rustic, cheerful and colorful environments create a beachy and cozy setting. Every detail of the inn was - and still is - designed according to the needs of its guests and the concepts of sustainability.
From the point of view of the environment in which it operates, the inn seeks ways to contribute culturally, economically and socially to local communities, and also to the preservation of natural spaces.
Within this context, we provide those who stay here with the opportunity to experience this concept, rationally stimulating contact with nature, always valuing the joy of living.
OUR VISION
Be recognized as a benchmark of excellence in the Sector
Accommodation, not only in Florianópolis, but in Brazil and the world, due to its commitment to the rational use of natural resources, the conservation of socio-cultural heritage, concern for people's quality of life and the adoption of economically viable, socially fair practices, culturally rich and politically legitimate.
CHARACTERISTICS
With a family proposal, we are very concerned with all the details that move this guesthouse here in Praia do Campeche, south of the island of Florianópolis. The services, facilities, cleaning, improvements, maintenance and conservation of the environment in which it is located are our work premises.
The team is selected very rigorously, trained and qualified within our concepts. People from the community are part of our team. Meeting the most diverse needs of our guests, with care and dedication, is a constant part of our daily lives. Nature was wonderful and presented us in an unparalleled way. The green and blue of the sea have a strong presence. Nothing more fair than returning this favor to mother nature, our faithful companion. We are fully aware of this as we respect it from the construction of the Pousada to the operational way of working on a daily basis. All this effort comes to make our coexistence as harmonious as possible within the environment in which we live.
SUSTAINABILITY POLICY
TO GO BACK
The Empreendimento Pousada Vila Tamarindo Eco Lodge, located in the neighborhood of Campeche, municipality of Florianópolis, state of Santa Catarina, Brazil, a small coastal leisure accommodation facility, facing Campeche beach, is committed to the Principles of Sustainable Tourism and establishes its sustainability policy, aiming to promote the continuous improvement of its operations in order to:
- Be committed to complying with legislation and other requirements applicable to sustainability aspects and impacts;
- Correctly manage solid waste, liquid effluents and atmospheric emissions and ensure adequate management of natural resources, namely water and energy;
- Encourage the training and participation of its customers, with a view to improving the quality of services provided and stimulating their commitment to environmental and socio-cultural issues, as well as obtaining financial results that allow economic sustainability in the medium and long term;
- Encourage the development and participation of neighboring communities, suppliers and service providers in order to promote the economic and social development of the region;
- Seek to meet the expectations of other interested parties regarding the socio-cultural and environmental performance of the enterprise;
- ·Disclose the policy to customers, employees, the local community, suppliers and service providers, local associations, other interested parties and the general public so that it is understood and implemented.
The concept of sustainability was the basis for the development of the entire Pousada Vila Tamarindo Eco Lodge project
The inn’s architectural design prioritized achieving maximum thermal efficiency. The housing units were all designed with cross ventilation, directed north/south, where the occurrence of these winds corresponds to 98% of the winds on Campeche beach, south of the island of Florianópolis, where we are located. The openings of the housing units were also positioned facing north, maximizing the lighting of the internal areas of the accommodation. The housing units on the upper floor were designed with double height ceilings, providing greater natural thermal comfort. In all units, the furniture was designed and built exclusively for the inn, and is all made from reclaimed wood.
Also within the architectural project, we horizontalized and divided the buildings into 7 distinct blocks, distributed harmoniously across the land, to minimize the visual impact and integrate the project into the environment in which it is located.
The lighting in external areas, common areas and gardens is equipped with LED lamps with photocells and motion sensors. Within housing units, LED lamps are also part of most environments, and are not used only where aesthetics will be affected.
Choosing an electric shower over solar heating in the accommodation was a difficult choice. The option for an electric shower in most accommodations took into account the high seasonality of Florianópolis, the colder climate with low solar incidence for most of the year in the south of the country and the water savings provided by the electric shower.
Aiming at environmental preservation, we developed an irrigation system for the gardens:
Subsoil abstraction -> reservoir -> irrigation -> return to the water table
We introduced the concept of a central minibar. The housing units have a minibar, but they are turned off and can be activated by guests if they wish. All drinks are stored in a single fridge at reception.
The work to raise awareness among employees, customers, suppliers and the community is constant.
As it is an ECO LODGE, its customers already know that sustainability will be highlighted during their stays. Panels communicating the sustainability policy, actions, etc., are widely spread throughout the inn. Towels are changed every two days and sheets are changed every four days, thus controlling effluent emissions.
Selective garbage collection is carried out at the inn. In order to encourage guests, a collective space was created for selective collection.
The homemade breakfast (temporarily suspended), made with seasonal regional products and traditional and local family recipes, values the customs of the region. The products are purchased entirely from local suppliers, developed by the inn and whose choice, among other factors, was due to their commitment to the concept of sustainability.
Employee training and awareness are constant. Courses, lectures, and meetings are part of the work that aims to enable them to understand, disseminate and practice the concept of sustainability. The reflection of this learning is taken outside the work space, promoting the dissemination of this concept in their homes and consequently in the community.
Within the social concept, we support charitable entities and develop social programs to support the community.
We always seek to integrate our guests with the local culture, encouraging them to learn more about the customs, folklore and crafts of the region.
Seeking constant improvement, we are certified within the area of international trade in sustainable tourism, through the SUSTAINABLE TOURISM CERTIFICATION PROGRAM with support from APEX and promotion from IBRD, also certified in the business management system through the SUSTAINABLE MANAGEMENT SYSTEM program, with the support of the Hospitality Institute (IH) and the Bem Receive Program; certification against sexual tourism through the certificate AGAINST SEXUAL EXPLOITATION OF CHILDREN IN TOURISM.
Through these actions we seek to achieve our sustainability objectives, raising awareness among our guests and employees about the value of life and the preservation of the planet and supporting the community so that together we can move forward in the search for a better planet.
“A place of peace, tranquility and harmonious coexistence with people and nature”.
This is our ideal, both inside and outside the Vila Tamarindo guesthouse.
The definition of our ideas and projects is based on the above premise, which is nothing more than part of the broad concept that is sustainability.
Always looking for new ideas, we try to find new projects to promote sustainability in our surroundings.
From October 2020, we decided to create a sustainability fee, which is allocated 100% for sustainable purposes. A cost-effective way for each of our guests to help and a great way to foster our sustainable practices.
Some projects developed were long-lasting and very successful.
The ARTE SOAVE program in partnership with master Nilton Garcia was a success here in Praia do Campeche for our community. For a few years we provided weekly Jiu-Jitsu classes at our inn with the aim of removing needy children from the streets and providing a healthy and integrative activity.
The CASA CANEMBA project – Instituto de Cerâmica Mestre Duca – also developed here in Praia do Campeche, was of enormous importance for the local community and for the preservation of Azorean culture on the Island of Florianópolis. This was also a dedicated project for children and teenagers from the local community, which for some years welcomed them and developed talents in the art of ceramics. The project also aimed to keep the flame burning in the Azorean culture of artisanal clay pottery production. It was a very gratifying success that still brings results today. Seeing members of our community who through this project learned a profession, there is nothing more rewarding for us at Pousada Vila Tamarindo Eco Lodge.
Other projects are underway and in full development.
Pousada Vila Tamarindo Eco Lodge is developing the “ecological garden” program (under implementation), a self-sufficient and pesticide-free garden, irrigation through our cyclical water collection system and organic fertilizer made in its own compost. The objectives of this project are: to create a viable model that can be replicated and to raise awareness in the local community about the importance of pesticide-free food for health. The food produced will be used in our SPA, distributed to the inn's employees and can also be used by our guests in our community kitchen during their stays.
We are studying data on our Carbon Emissions to investigate the possibilities and feasibility of neutralizing our emissions.
Institutions that the Pousada supports:
SEOVE – Home for elderly women in Praia do Campeche – Financial support.
